Action Sports Photography | Whitewater Kayaking | 3 August 2011

The other day I went with my buddy Andy Wagner, the guy in the pink kayak, up to Ice House to photograph him and some of his buddies whitewater kayaking. Now, I had seen Andy kayak before, but never have I seen him do anything like this. These guys are legitimately off their rockers. It was really cool to see adrenaline junkies in real life. Before this, I had just seen them on TV. The water falls they were dropping off of were gigantic. I have no idea how high any of these drops were exactly, but let's just say that if I was to jump off the rocks I was photographing from... it would have been at least a 30, maybe even 40 foot drop for me. Granted, they are dropping from pool to pool, but some of the straight falls had to be 20 feet. It was a blast shooting these guys and I hope I get a chance to go back and shoot them again. It would be a blast to take a day trip up there. The only bummer was that we ran out of light. My camera never went below ISO 1600, and it peaked out at 6400 at the end of the night... which if you're wondering isn't ideal at all. It would be great to go back and shoot with more light. Can't wait to do it again, thanks guys for giving me the opportunity. Enjoy!
